Dear friends and neighbours,

As our government builds a stronger and more resilient economy for everyone, we continue our work to support young Canadians and create more opportunities for the next generation.  Young people, in particular, are facing real challenges as they try to build their careers and get ahead. Many are balancing everyday costs with big life goals, like post-secondary education or saving for a first home. That is why our government is making targeted investments to help young Canadians gain the skills, experience, and opportunities they need to succeed.

A major focus of this work is the Canada Summer Jobs program, which continues to create valuable employment opportunities for youth here in Oakville East and across Canada. This year, the CSJ program $1,453,875 investment in Oakville East is supporting 105 organizations to provide 349 jobs for youth.

Canada Summer Jobs helps students and young workers gain hands-on experience, earn income, and build confidence as they prepare for their future careers. At the same time, it supports local businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations that rely on young talent during the busy summer months.
Beyond summer employment, our government is continuing to invest in long-term career pathways for young Canadians through Team Canada Strong, a nationwide initiative to recruit, train, and hire up to 100,000 skilled trades workers by 2030-31. This initiative will help create clear and well-paid pathways into the skilled trades while supporting the construction of homes, infrastructure, and major projects across the country.

Additional supports are also helping apprentices and young workers succeed, including wage subsidies for employers hiring apprentices, expanded apprenticeship grants, and new completion bonuses for those obtaining Red Seal certification. Together, these measures are helping to remove barriers to training and to connect young Canadians with stable, high-paying careers.

Our government is also investing in the future through programs that help youth adapt to the evolving economy. Investments in digital skills training, green jobs, agriculture, and the Youth Climate Corps are helping young Canadians build experience in growing sectors like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, clean technology, and environmental resilience.

At the same time, we continue to support students and families through measures such as strengthened student financial assistance and the renewed Canada Strong Pass, helping young Canadians explore our country while lowering costs for families.

Supporting young people also means supporting the industries where Canadian talent shines on the world stage. This week, the Government of Canada announced the permanent renewal of Canada’s Creative Export Strategy, continuing support for Canada’s creative industries as they expand into international markets.

Canada’s creative sector is a major source of innovation, economic growth, and jobs. Since 2018, the strategy has supported more than 3,200 Canadian businesses and organizations in reaching over 120 global markets and generating millions in commercial opportunities. Through continued investments in trade missions, export support, and funding programs, we are helping Canadian creators, artists, and cultural industries grow and compete internationally.

If you would like additional details on these programs, please reach out to my constituency office.
Canada is meeting the challenges of today, creating opportunities that position young Canadians at the forefront of national solutions.  Whether it is helping young Canadians find their first summer job, supporting apprentices entering the skilled trades, or promoting Canadian talent abroad, these investments are about building a stronger future and ensuring the next generation has every opportunity to succeed.

Sincerely yours,
Hon. Anita Anand,
Member of Parliament, Oakville East

Trip to the Middle East

Recently, I met with His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, to discuss regional security, de-escalation efforts, and cooperation on shared global priorities. I also visited Muscat to meet with my Omani counterpart, H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, marking 50 years of Canada–Oman relations. During the visit, the first by a Canadian foreign minister in over a decade, we signed an MOU on Political Consultations and agreed to strengthen cooperation in areas including clean technology, health, education, infrastructure, and critical minerals.
