Dear Oakville Friends and Neighbours,

Last week, Canada and the European Union launched the Alliance for the Future at the Canada-EU Summit in Montréal. Prime Minister Carney and I joined European leaders to announce more than twenty new measures aimed at strengthening cooperation, expanding economic opportunities and building closer ties between Canada and Europe.

This new partnership will create more opportunities for businesses in Oakville and across the country to reach European markets, for students to study abroad and for researchers to work together on new discoveries. At a time when global trade and economic relationships are changing, strengthening our partnerships with reliable allies is an important part of supporting Canadian workers, businesses, and families.

Building a stronger economy also means making sure we can move forward with the projects Canada needs here at home. Our government has introduced Bill C-39, the Building Canada Strong Act, to make the approval process for major projects faster, more predictable and better coordinated.

The proposed legislation will establish a more efficient system for reviewing designated projects, with a goal of reaching one decision within one year, while maintaining environmental standards and respecting Indigenous rights.

This work will help Canada move forward with important infrastructure, strengthen our transportation and trade networks, and create more opportunities for workers and businesses. Here in Oakville, I know how important it is that our communities have the infrastructure and economic opportunities needed to grow and thrive.

I want to wish everyone celebrating Diwali in Oakville and across Canada a very happy and joyous Festival of Lights.

Diwali is a time for families, friends, and loved ones to come together, light diyas, share meals and celebrate the triumph of light over darkness and hope over despair. It is also an opportunity to recognize the many contributions of Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist communities, whose traditions and cultures continue to enrich our communities and our country.

As we celebrate the diversity that makes Canada strong, we are also continuing our work to build new partnerships and create more opportunities for Canadians in a changing world.

As we continue this work, I remain focused on ensuring that Oakville East is represented and that the priorities of our community are heard in Ottawa.

Yours very truly,
Hon. Anita Anand,
Member of Parliament, Oakville East

Diwali on the Hill
Diwali has always been one of my favourite times of year. It brings back fond memories of celebrating with family, and it was a joy to share that spirit on Parliament Hill last week alongside so many constituents and colleagues.

G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta

Recently, I attended the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta, where I joined international partners to discuss global security, economic resilience and stronger supply chains. I also met with counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Australia, the United Kingdom, India and Mexico to advance cooperation on trade, energy security and regional stability. These discussions reinforced the importance of working together to address shared challenges and strengthen Canada's international partnerships.
