Dear friends and neighbours,
As summer continues, I hope you are finding time to enjoy the season with family and friends and to take part in the many activities happening across Oakville East.
Today we recognize World Youth Skills Day. Established by the United Nations, the day highlights the importance of helping young people develop the skills they need to succeed in an evolving economy and workforce.
Here in Oakville East we are seeing that commitment in action. Through the Canada Summer Jobs program over 100 local businesses, non-profit organizations, and community groups have received more than $1.4 million in funding this year to create 349 meaningful employment opportunities for young people. These positions help youth gain valuable work experience, develop new skills, and explore future career paths while making important contributions to our community.
Creating opportunities for young people extends beyond the workplace. It also means making it easier for them to explore, learn, and experience everything our country has to offer.
Our government’s generational $755 million investment in sport funding, announced in the Spring Economic Update, is helping to build rinks, fields, tracks, and gyms, giving youth in Oakville East and across Canada more opportunities to get involved and participate in sports.
I also want to highlight the Canada Strong Pass's return this summer. Available from June 19 to September 7, the Canada Strong Pass provides free or discounted access to many of Canada's parks, museums, galleries, historic sites, and rail travel opportunities.
Through the program, young people and families in Oakville East can enjoy free admission to national parks, national historic sites, and national marine conservation areas operated by Parks Canada, along with discounted camping fees. They can also benefit from free or reduced admission at participating museums and galleries, as well as discounted VIA Rail travel for young adults.
The Canada Strong Pass requires no registration or physical pass. Canadians can simply visit participating locations and take advantage of the available benefits.
Investing in young people is one of the most important investments we can make. Whether through education, sports, skills training, apprenticeships, or summer employment opportunities, supporting youth today helps build a stronger workforce and a stronger Canada tomorrow.
These programs reflect a shared goal: creating opportunities for young people while making it easier for families to connect with their communities, explore our country, and build lasting memories together.
Sincerely yours,
Hon. Anita Anand,
Member of Parliament, Oakville East

An Evening in Oakville
I recently enjoyed an evening in our beautiful Town Square connecting with members of the community, followed by a walk through beautiful Gairloch Gardens, taking in the waterfront views and reflecting on what makes Oakville such a special place to call home.

Last week, I joined Prime Minister Carney at the 2026 NATO Summit to further strengthen Canada’s contributions to the NATO Alliance, forge new partnerships with Allies and build shared security, including in defence of Ukraine.
