In Oakville East and across the country, Canadians deserve to feel safe. Since being re-elected, I have been working across government lines to ensure that crime is being addressed here in Oakville, including establishing the Oakville Crime Prevention Roundtable. The message from our community has been clear: we need stronger sentencing and bail guidelines.

This week, we are taking action to strengthen the Criminal Code by introducing new legislation that delivers exactly that. As promised, we are ensuring that violent and repeat offenders face real consequences with consecutive sentencing so multiple crimes mean longer jail times. To protect our local small businesses, we are introducing harsher penalties for organized retail theft. No employee should ever fear for their safety at work.

We are also continuing our support for law enforcement by hiring 1,000 new Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) personnel to increase federal policing capacity and tackle crime across Canada.

These new measures will combat crime, protect Canadians and build safer communities.

Making life more affordable for our Oakville East community is also a top priority for me, and our government is lowering costs and protecting the programs on which families and individuals rely. We are making the National School Program permanent, saving Oakville East families with two children $800 annually, and we are renewing the Canada Strong Pass providing discounted access to national parks, museums and rail travel over the holidays and summer for young people and families.

Finally, we are introducing automatic tax filing to assist up to 5.5 million Canadians receive the federal benefits to which they are entitled while streamlining their tax filing to lower costs.

I remain focussed on delivering results for our Oakville East community, and I look forward to continuing conversations with constituents and stakeholders on these important issues.

Oakville Hospital Foundation Diwali Celebration
Each year, the Oakville Hospital Foundation holds a Diwali celebration to raise funds for the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. I thank the Oakville community for supporting our hospital, and the volunteers for making this event a success. Over the course of my life, one of the most special times of the year has been Diwali with my family, and the celebration of light over darkness and good over evil. From my family to yours, happy Diwali!

Renewing Strategic Partnerships
From India to Singapore to China, I’m focused on rebuilding relationships, advancing new economic opportunities, and diversifying supply chains with countries across the Indo-Pacific. In Mumbai, I met with business leaders and investors, elevating Canada’s relationship with India through a new roadmap that enhances economic cooperation, deepens people-to-people ties, and promotes stability. In Singapore, I recognized our dedicated team at Canada’s High Commission for their exceptional work strengthening Canada’s relationship and advancing our priorities across the Indo-Pacific. In China, I met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi to mark 20 years of the Canada-China Strategic Partnership and discuss how to renew and refocus it in today’s evolving global context.
