Newsletter - Sept 17, 2025

The Fall 2025 Parliament session began this week, and I am delighted to be back in the House of Commons to continue delivering results for Oakville East on my three key priorities: strengthening community safety, protecting and building the Canadian economy, and addressing affordability concerns.

With this week's return to the House of Commons, our government is tabling legislation to strengthen community safety in Oakville East and communities across Canada by amending the Criminal Code of Canada to include bail reform and stronger sentencing.

Earlier this week, we launched Build Homes Canada to build affordable housing at scale and speed. To bring down housing costs, we will increase the supply of housing, and Build Canada Homes will make it easier and simpler for builders to access the resources needed to build new homes here in Oakville East.

Last week, our government announced new measures to protect, build, and transform Canadian strategic industries. We are investing $5 billion in our new Strategic Response Fund to help firms in all sectors impacted by tariffs, and $1 billion for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative.

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the backbone of our local economy here in Oakville East. Through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative, we are supporting them with up to $1 million in non-repayable funding and up to $5 million in repayable supports. This will help local SMEs in our Oakville East business community invest in their growth, diversify markets, create new revenue sources by adopting innovative technologies, and bring new products and services to market.

I encourage any and all Oakville East businesses and organizations impacted by tariffs to learn more about whether they are eligible to receive funding through this initiative by visiting the application portal here.

While I am continuing to reach out to local stakeholders to ensure awareness of these new tariff response initiatives, my constituency office staff are always available to answer your questions. Our office can be reached by phone at 905-338-2008, or by email at anita.anand@parl.gc.ca to learn more information about these programs.

As always, my thoughts are with the residents of Oakville East as I return for a busy session in the House of Commons this fall to deliver on my key priority areas.

Oakville Terry Fox Run 2025

An incredible turnout at this year's Oakville Terry Fox Run! Thank you to our supportive community for coming out and to my friend Pam Damoff for her long-time efforts to support Terry’s legacy and organize this event in Oakville. Thinking of Terry, my mother, and all those affected by cancer as we continue to support medical research to find a cure.

Oak Park Fall Fair 2025

Each year, the Oak Park Fall Fair brings our Oakville community together to kick off the start of fall with family, friends, fun activities and delicious food, while also supporting local organizations and businesses. Thank you to Councillor Jeff Knoll, Michelle and all of the volunteers for making this event happen in Oakville East!

Art in My Garden

Always a pleasure to attend Art in My Garden and see all the talented local artists in our community! Thank you to Rachel Williams and the volunteers who organized today’s wonderful exhibit in Oakville East.
