Newsletter - June 11, 2025

During the first three weeks of Parliament, our new government has put forward several key pieces of legislation that delivers on our promises to Canadians, including our middle-class tax cut for 22 million Canadians which takes effect on Canada Day. This tax cut ensures that hardworking Canadians will save more than $27 billion over five years, starting in 2025-26.

This week, Prime Minister Carney announced this week that Canada will achieve NATO’s 2 per cent target this year, half a decade ahead of schedule, and further accelerate our investments in years to follow. In an increasingly dangerous and divided world, our government is bolstering support for the Canadian Armed Forces to uphold and assert Canada's sovereignty and ensure our defence never becomes dependent on others again.

In addition, our government has introduced two important legislative bills since returning to the House of Commons: Bill C-2 (Strong Borders Act) and Bill C-5 (One Canadian Economy Bill).

The One Canadian Economy Bill is will remove all barriers to internal trade and labour mobility, while unlocking the potential for major infrastructure projects across the country. Removing these barriers will add up to $200 billion to our domestic economy, which is why we urge all parties to vote with us in the interests of the Canadian economy.

Meanwhile, the Strong Borders Act will strengthen Canada's laws and provide law enforcement with more tools and expanded authority to defend our border and stop the flow of illegal fentanyl. To further strengthen community safety here at home in Oakville East, I am prioritizing toughening the Criminal Code to make bail harder for repeat offenders of auto-theft and home invasion.

I have also formed a Roundtable with local law enforcement and elected representatives as a cross-government local initiative for action on behalf of our residents and their shared concerns.

The work has begun to build a stronger, safer, and more affordable Canada. I am focused on ensuring Oakville East continues to benefit from the work our government is doing.
