I was very glad to visit a number of local businesses and organizations in Oakville East last week who received federal funding through our government's annual Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) initiative. The CSJ program strengthens our community and prepares the next generation for success by helping young people gain skills, confidence, and experience in a professional environment.
Over $900,000 in federal funding went to local businesses, organizations, and non-profits across Oakville East this year, creating more than 150 new summer jobs for students and youth in our community. It was great to meet with some of the students and youth working at these local businesses and organizations last week, and to speak with them about their experiences in the CSJ program over the summer.
This week, I was in Helsinki, Finland, to advance Canada’s relationships with Nordic countries on shared priorities. I met with my counterparts in the Nordic Five (Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland) to deepen our economic, security and regional cooperation, which is a core pillar of Canada’s Arctic Foreign Policy.
Diversifying trade relationships continues to be a priority for our government. As a reminder, the deadline for all applications to join the Canada Trade Mission to Italy from October 12 to 17, 2025, is next Friday, August 29, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. PT. This mission offers an opportunity for Canadian businesses to deepen their footprint in a key European market known for innovation, design, and world-class industry, and I encourage any local Oakville East organizations, small and medium-sized enterprises, and entrepreneurs interested in applying to learn more about the trade mission below.
