Dear friends and neighbours,
As we continue to navigate an uncertain global economy, our government is standing up for Canadian workers, supporting Canadian businesses and building a stronger Canadian economy.
I want to share an important update on how our government is responding to unjustified U.S. tariffs with targeted action and $7.5 billion in new and enhanced supports, building on nearly $25 billion in support already provided since the U.S. tariffs were implemented.
To support small and medium-sized businesses in Oakville East and across Canada, we are providing an additional $1.5 billion through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative and $500 million in new liquidity support through the Business Development Bank of Canada. These supports will help businesses manage tariff pressures and keep growing.
Our new $2 billion Canada Strong Diversification Fund will support tariff-affected businesses with projects and investments that strengthen and diversify our economy.
We are supporting Canadian workers with $3.5 billion in new Rapid Response Supports by extending EI flexibility, expanding employee training, strengthening job matching, and helping employers retain their workforce.
At the same time, our government will match the new U.S. tariffs dollar for dollar to protect our Canadian industries. Counter-tariffs will target sectors hit hardest by U.S. tariffs, including steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, and electronics.
For Oakville East and communities across our country, supporting Canadian businesses and workers is about more than responding to tariffs. It is about building an economy that is more resilient, more independent, and better prepared for whatever comes next.
We will continue working to protect Canadian jobs, strengthen our industries, support local businesses, and diversify our economy. Canada has the talent, resources, and determination to weather this period of uncertainty and come out stronger.
Sincerely yours,
Hon. Anita Anand,
Member of Parliament, Oakville East
