Budget 2025: Build Canada Strong, now passed by the House of Commons, is our plan to transform our economy from one that is reliant on a single trade partner to one that is stronger, more self-sufficient, and more resilient to global shocks. Canada’s new government is focused on catalysing investment across the economy to supercharge Canada’s productivity and competitiveness. This ambitious budget will help unleash $1 trillion investment over five years from provinces, territories, municipalities, Indigenous communities, and the private sector to build one strong economy right across our country. Canada strong.
Central to our ambitious plan is building - infrastructure, homes, and strong communities through the Build Communities Strong Fund, a $51 billion investment over 10 years, followed by $3 billion per year ongoing. This fund is an essential investment to revitalize the local infrastructure in communities like Oakville East that underpins our local prosperity, including roads, bridges, water systems and hospitals.
A key economic sector in Oakville East and communities across Canada are Small and Medium Enterprises (SME), who exemplify Canadian hard-work, ingenuity and entrepreneurship, and employ nearly half of Canada’s workers. This past week, I met with some of our local businesses to learn more about their work and discuss federal government investments in Budget 2025 including:
$46.5 million Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME) Export Readiness Initiative to support training for SMEs with limited exporting experience to learn how best to expand into new markets.
Small and Medium Business Procurement Program ($79.9 million) to provide specialised, streamlined support for Canadian small and medium-sized businesses trying to break into the federal market.
More low-cost capital for small and medium-sized businesses through the Business Development Bank of Canada, increasing its maximum loan size from $2 million to $5 million.
Enhanced Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax incentives to help businesses innovate and grow.
Budget 2025 is an investment budget that will drive productivity and innovation in Oakville East and beyond to create more thriving businesses, more employment opportunities and strengthen our community. I remain focussed on delivering these results for our Oakville East community, and I look forward to continuing conversations with constituents and stakeholders on these important issues.
Remembrance Day
On Remembrance Day, we remembered our family members, our friends, and our fellow Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our country and protect the values we hold so dear. An honour to have my counterparts from the UK and South Africa in Oakville East for the ceremony held by Oakville Legion Branch 114.
G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting
As Canada’s G7 presidency comes to a close at the end of this year, I’m proud of the progress we’ve made. Hosting the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Niagara last week highlighted the power of multilateral cooperation — from advancing global peace and security to strengthening economic resilience and supporting Ukraine alongside our allies.

So much holiday cheer was in downtown Oakville at the annual Santa Claus parade! Always a joy to walk alongside our community and kick off the season together. Thank you to everyone who came out—and to Santa for the early visit!
Tree Lighting Ceremony
It was wonderful to see so many Oakville East families come out for Downtown Oakville’s long-standing Tree Lighting ceremony. This tradition is always such a joyful celebration of community spirit and good cheer as the holiday season begins.
